28th July 2017, Tuesday: Prime Minister of Pakistan was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan after he and his children were found guilty for having illegal overseas properties and business.
Sharif’s properties and businesses were made public in a Panama Leak Papers.
The ruling came after a probe into his family’s wealth following the 2015 Panama Papers dump linking Mr Sharif’s children to offshore companies.
Mr Sharif has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the case.
The governing party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said Sharif had stepped down immediately. The party must now choose an interim prime minister to be accepted by parliament.
The ruling will throw the governing party and the country at large into turmoil ahead of elections due next year.
